Achilles Tendonitis

Achilles Tendonitis

The Achilles tendon is the largest tendon in the human body and can withstand forces of 1,000 pounds or more, but it is also the most frequently ruptured tendon. Both professional and weekend athletes can suffer from Achilles tendonitis, a common overuse injury.

Achilles tendonitis often begins with mild pain after exercise or running that gradually worsens. Other symptoms include:

  • Recurring localized pain along the tendon

  • Morning tenderness in the affected area

  • Sluggishness in your leg

  • Mild or severe swelling

  • Stiffness that generally diminishes as the tendon warms up with use

The doctors at Progressive Podiatry may recommend a number of treatment options for Achilles tendonitis, including special bandages, anti-inflammatory medication and orthotics.

Progressive Podiatry is an ideal choice for both prevention and treatments. To learn more about Progressive Podiatry, or to schedule a consultation with a specialist, please call (859) 331-2440.
